Noetzie Beach
Only 10 minutes east of Knysna lies a secluded bay with a pristine beach. The protected area provides a wide variety of indigenous flora and fauna surrounded by spectacular landscapes with a pristine beach, which stands out from the contrast of the deep green of the countryside, the reddish- brown sandstone formation and the turquoise - blue of the Indian Ocean. The Noetzie River flows gently through the valley with indigenous coastal forest and flows here on Noetzie beach in the Indian Ocean.
Noetzie is a peaceful , somewhat isolated place but due to the Noetzie Castles, it became famous worldwide. The word “Noetzie” originally known as “Noetziekamma” comes from the Khoisan language and means "dark water".
The Sinclair Nature Reserve is bordering Noetzie Beach and a beautiful secluded bay can be reached on a short hiking trail. The nature reserve is part of the Garden Route National Park and is managed by SANParks (South African National Parks).
Entry to the Sinclair Nature Reserve is by permit only. Permits are obtainable at the SanParks Offices at Diepwalle, Hakerville and Knysna (Thesen Island). Visitors are restricted to main footpath, rocks and beaches and visiting hours are from Sunrise to sunset.
